Anne's History |
|
Hi my name now is Anne Bennett, but I was born in1949 in a back-to-back house, near the Horse Fair area of inner ring Birmingham, as Anne Marie Flanagan. I was the second child of Roman Catholic, Irish parents, my mother coming from Donegal and my father from Fermanagh. I was brought up in the rich Irish culture, promoted by my parents and the strong Irish community in which I was reared and I grew up thinking of myself as an Irish Brummie. |

We were eventually moved under slum clearance to a large council estate on the north side of the city called Pype Hayes in December 1956 and I attended the Abbey Primary School in Erdington as our parish of SS Peter and Paul did not have a school of their own. At St Peter and Pauls church, I made my First Holy Communion and later my Confirmation. |
